How do you get a VA Loan?

First: Get Pre-Qualified

The first step in getting a VA Loan is to contact a VA Specialist to get pre-qualified for a home purchase using your Veterans Affairs benefits. A VA Home Loan Specialist will be able to let you know what price home you are pre-qualified for and issue you a pre-approval letter.

Second: Find Your Home

Once you have been pre-qualified to get a Veteran Mortgage the next step is to find a house.  Make sure you show the realtor or seller your pre-approval letter so they know you are qualified to buy the home. VA Mortgages allow for the seller to pay for the Veteran buyer’s closing costs, up to 4% of the loan amount.  If you are going to utilize this VA benefit, make sure that the seller-paid closing costs are specified in the home purchase contract.

Third: Full VA Loan Application

Once you have found the house you wan to buy, contact your VA Specialist. They will need a copy of the contract for the house you are buying. From this, they can prepare your full application. They’ll also prepare all the required disclosures for you to sign and provide you with a list of personal documents that will be required for the loan.

Fourth: Close on Your New Home

After your lender has received your VA Home Loan application and documents, they will process and underwrite your mortgage, including ordering the VA Appraisal. Once you have an approval, you’ll go to closing where the loan documents are signed and the purchase transaction is officially completed. And then you get to move in to your new home!!
